About Beckie

While growing up, I did gymnastics for about 15 years.  I believe this is where I fell in love with challenging my body.  However, as you will see, it took me a while to find yoga.

But first, my basic resume:

  • BA in Earth Science and Environmental Studies from Baylor University
  • Flood zone researcher at two companies in Austin.
  • Wrote Environmental Assessments for Texas Wind Power.
  • Hydrogeologic technician, hydrogeologist and environmental educator at the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District in Austin.
  • Took a wonderful break as I did retail for the first time, at my friend’s little kitchen shop, in Comfort, Texas.
  • GIS work for PEC.
  • General Manager for the Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District in Dripping Springs.
  • Environmental Consultant for Turner, Collie and Braden in Austin.

It was while I was a hydrogeologic technician that my body began to tell me to pay attention.  There was so much going on that I needed something to read my body better.  I had heard yoga could do that.  So, I tried it.  And it worked.  Instead of one big problem, I was able to pinpoint exactly where the problems were located and fix them.

But, that’s when it started to happen.  Yoga was changing me.  Sure my body, but surprisingly, my way of thinking and living too.  I needed more than regular classes, so I enrolled in the teacher training program at Yoga Yoga in Austin.  I completed over 150 hours before moving to our house in Johnson City.  It had been heaven, but now I needed to help my husband remodel our old house on the weekends.

I continued with my own practice, and would occasionally substitute teach yoga.  I helped any friends who wanted to have a yoga program tailored to their individual needs.  Then, May 2012, I was offered space to teach yoga at 24/7 Gym.  I finally had the opportunity to teach in Blanco County.  Then that fall, I decided to become certified as a 200-hr Registerd Yoga Teacher through the yoga teacher training program at Sana Vida yoga studio in Marble Falls.  Immediately after I completed my certification, I began building In Harmony yoga studio.  Now Johnson City has a yoga studio located just 3 blocks from the Courthouse and across from the school’s gym.  It is so enjoyable to hold yoga classes and private yoga sessions in this space.  It is my goal to encourage the growth of a yoga community here in Johnson City.

You are very welcome. Maybe next time I’ll devise a handout concerning “yoga at work” or “yoga for the workplace” for you to distribute prior to your event. That way, if anyone has questions, they’ll have a chance to come see me. Take care.
